Bharti Airtel strikes record high on Microsoft tie-up
Bharti Airtel advanced to a lifetime high of Rs 555.50, in intra-day trade, on partnering with Microsoft to cater to small and medium businesses in India.
Bharti Airtel was up 1.45%, at Rs 552, at the time of writing this piece.It had a previous all-time high of Rs 552.80, struck on 2 November 2006.The counter saw 1.47 lakh shares changing hands on BSE.The stock had witnessed a solid surge in the past. From Rs 459.10 on 5 October 2006, it surged to Rs 544 by 10 November on sustained buying.
The partnership will begin by offering Microsoft solutions for hosted messaging and collaboration to small and medium enterprises.This service is predominantly aimed at companies with five or more employees, and is expected to be available from January 2007. These companies will be able to enjoy the same experience as large enterprise customers without initial investments using a pay-as-you-go model.
Bharti Airtel is also strengthening and expanding its enterprise services business, which includes long distance and corporate enterprise businesses. It is focusing on seven key verticals as it begins to cash in on the telecommunication needs of large enterprises, including banks, BPOs and financial services.
Meanwhile, the company is planning to acquire mobile operating firms in Africa, West Asia and South Asia.
Bharti Airtel is a market leader in the cellular segment with a market share of 21.4%. The company’s consolidated net profit as per US GAAP jumped 79% to Rs 934 crore for Q2 September 2006. Consolidated revenue rose 61% to Rs 4,357 crore.
