HCL Infosystems spurts on BSNL networking deal

HCL Infosystems spurted 5.15% to Rs 166.45, on receiving an order worth Rs 591 crore from BSNL.

This order is for planning, engineering, supply, installation, and commissioning of network facilities for a BSNL project.As many as 1.40 lakh shares were traded in the counter on BSE.The stock witnessed a sharp rally in the past few days ahead of the announcement. From Rs 125.15 on 3 November, it has surged to Rs 162.45 by 10 November, only to decline to Rs 158.30 on 10 November under profit-booking.

Earlier this month, HCL Infosystems decided to enter organised retailing of digital products by setting up 100 'HCL Digilife' stores in the country till end-2007, 30-35 of which will be located in north India.

HCL Infosystems in July launched a complete range of infrastructure technology solutions, aimed at the fast growing Indian BPO and ITES sector.

In May, HCL Infosystems entered into a strategic alliance with Apple to provide sales and service support for iPods in India. As part of the tie-up, HCL is setting up distribution, logistics and service network to ensure availability of Apple iPods at key retail channels, including music shops, consumer electronic stores, format stores and other key outlets.

The rollout will take place in a phased manner, with the first phase covering places like Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Kolkata and Pune. HCL will also distribute Apple desktop computers for education, media and entertainment space.

HCL Infosystems registered a net profit fall of 13.50%, to Rs 25.74 crore (Rs 29.75 crore) for Q1 September 2006. Net sales rose 9%, to Rs 524.30 crore (Rs 481.05 crore).
