Sensex back at 13,400 amid volatility
The BSE Sensex recovered on finding support at the lower level, and is now at the 13,400 mark.At 10:18 IST the 30-shares BSE Sensex was up 1.59 points, to 13,400.96.
The Sensex witnessed high volatility in the opening session of trade. After opening flat at 13,413.61, it plunged to a low of 13,235.95. Its high for the day was at 13,446.95.The market-breadth was negative and 764 shares declined for 720 that advanced.The total turnover on BSE amounted to Rs 460 crore.Among the 30-Sensex pack, 21 declined while the rest advanced.
ONGC was the top loser, down 1.96% to Rs 819 on 27,342 shares.Hero Honda (down 1.61% to Rs 727), HLL (down 1.64% to Rs 225.50) and Bharti Airtel (down 1.17% to Rs 600) followed.HDFC Bank was the top gainer, up 1.90% to Rs 1,054, on 11,405 shares.Tata Steel (up 1.81% to Rs 461.60), L&T (up 1.72% to Rs 1,461) and Tata Motors (up 1.05% to Rs 848.55) were the other chief gainers.Index heavyweight Reliance Industries (RIL) rose 0.86% to Rs 1,249 on 2.32 lakh shares.
Bank of India lost 1.47% to Rs 181.45. It decided to acquire 76% shareholding of P T Bank Swadesi Tbk, Indonesia. On 11 December 2006, Bank of India signed a conditional sale purchase agreement with majority shareholders of P T Bank Swadesi Tbk. The acquisition will be completed after necessary approvals/confirmations from Bank Indonesia and capital market regulators in Indonesia.
L&T rallies on winning project at Delhi airport
L&T rose 2.2% to Rs 1,469, as GMR Infrastructure awarded it a Rs 5,400 crore order on Monday.As many as 1.2 lakh shares changed hands in the counter on BSE.The stock had declined 1% on Monday in weak market to Rs 1,436.30. Yet, it outperformed the Sensex. The barometer index lost 2.9% that day.
The scrip had lost 1.2% to Rs 1,451.55 on 8 December 2006. Earlier, the stock witnessed an upmove since late-October 2006 in a firm market. From Rs 1,270.20 on 27 October, it had surged to a lifetime closing high of Rs 1,470 on 7 December.
GMR Infrastructure-promoted Delhi International Airport (DIAL) has awarded Larsen & Toubro (L&T) a contract for design and construction of terminal, runway and associated works at the Delhi airport. The order involves design and construction of a passenger terminal, and a 4.43-km runway, which will be one of Asia's longest. L&T will execute the work in time for the Commonwealth Games.
L&T, of late, has been focusing on projects of large magnitude in airport, ports, power and upstream gas and oil sectors.L&T will also build primary infrastructure support facilities such as aprons, remainder taxiways, cargo terminals and aircraft maintenance facilities. L&T has emerged as one of the key beneficiaries of a boom in capital expenditure, and infrastructure segment. Its expertise in almost all segments of infrastructure work, coupled with the relatively bigger size of its balance-sheet, gives it an edge over other players in the country.
