Bharti Airtel to provide DTH services

Bharti Airtel announced that the board of the company approved the scheme of transfer of the towers for mobile communications and related passive infrastructure to a wholly owned subsidiary, Bharti Infratel, for enhanced operational efficiencies.

Bharti Airtel has decided to commence direct to home (DTH) services through its wholly owned subsidiary Bharti Telemedia.

The company`s board has also approved the acquisition of a submarine network cable system from Network i2i (jointly owned by Singtel and a Bharti group company) by way of purchase of all the assets or equity for an overall consideration of USD 110 million, subject to obtaining the requisite approvals.The above was approved by the board of directors of the company at its meeting held on Jan. 22, 2007.
