CMC retains 'A' group title for third successive day

CMC topped the list of 'A' group gainers for the third straight day.
The stock jumped a staggering 17% to settle at Rs 1221.85, extending its stupendous surge triggered by strong Q3 results. CMC’s consolidated net profit jumped 69% in December 2006 quarter, to Rs 20.40 crore (Rs 12.07 crore). Consolidated sales jumped 44% to Rs 298.63 crore (Rs 207.25 crore).

Rolta India surged 8% to Rs 304.20 as mid-sized IT stocks found support on expectations of strong December quarter numbers. It was the second biggest gainer from BSE’s A group. Rolta unveils December quarter results on 24 January 2007.

United Phosphorus gained 6% to Rs 338.45, extending its recent surge. It was the third biggest gainer from BSE’s 'A' group.

i-flex solutions advanced 6% to Rs 2152.75, after the company announced that People’s Bank (Bridgeport, Connecticut) has selected the company's core banking solution, Flexcube, for its core deposits system replacement. It was the fourth biggest gainer from BSE’s A group. i-flex unveils its December 2006 quarter results on 19 January 2007.

Oil marketing firm IBP surged 5.5% to Rs 499.10, after a sharp fall in global crude oil prices. It was the fifth biggest gainer from BSE’s 'A' group. Oil price declined sharply on Tuesday after Saudi Arabia said OPEC production cuts were working well and there was no need for an emergency meeting of the producer group. US crude for February delivery fell $1.78 to settle at $51.21 a barrel, after hitting a session low at $50.55 on the New York Mercantile Exchange.
